Lightmill Productions is a film company based in Amsterdam. Our platform offers solutions from conceptualisation to production to post-production of audiovisuals of all kinds, including documentaries, advertising, short formats and music videos. We are a creative space to share ideas and make things happen. Lightmill Productions is project customised, adapting to the specific characteristics of each production, and adding more team players and resources as needed. We offer on-site and remote solutions for post-production working across different markets and in several languages: English, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.
Why a light mill?
A light mill is an airtight glass bulb containing a partial vacuum, with a set of black and silver vanes which are mounted on a spindle inside. The vanes rotate when exposed to light, with a faster rotation as the light becomes more intense. For this to work, a very delicate system is taking place almost unnoticed - where light brings in energy that put the vanes into motion.
Lightmill Productions is named after this device, as the light mill itself mirrors the very process of making a film. There are inputs by countless people, innumerable decisions and factors required, all in order to have a finished product. In the end, it looks effortless - just like the vanes of a light mill dancing with the light.
